“Charity is of the same nature as fighting: the coward trembles, while the brave stands firm. For this reason, the Prophet ﷺ said: ‘As for the pride that Allah loves, it is a man’s pride in himself during battle, and his pride in himself when giving charity.’ This is because it is a position of steadfastness and strength, so pride is fitting for it.” Majmūʿ al-Fatāwā, vol. 14, p. 95. Imam Jaʿfar al-Ṣādiq رحمه الله said: “Seek the descent of provision through charity, safeguard your wealth through zakāh, no one becomes poor by being economical, prudent management is half of one’s livelihood, and showing affection is half of intelligence.” Ḥilyat al-Awliyāʾ by Abū Nuʿaym (3/194).
